Swim and Dive Earns Top 50 Academic Ranking for Second Straight Semester

PHOENIX, Ariz. � For the second straight semester, the NAU swim and dive team�s grade-point-average ranked it among the top 50 Division I teams as compiled by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA), which sponsors the awards and collects the data each semester from college swim teams throughout the USA before producing the official list.

Athletics Department Earns Top 100 Ranking; Quality Grade Report

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. � The Northern Arizona University athletics department combined the best of both worlds during the 2008-09 academic year with a Top 100 Leerfield Sports Directors Cup standing and a quality grade report for its more than 350 student-athletes. NAU ranked among the top 100 for the sixth time in the last seven seasons and 11th overall in the last 13 years.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. � The Northern Arizona football team is ranked 21st in the annual preseason poll published in The Sporting News.

Former Olympian Lomong Wins 1500, Qualifies for Worlds

EUGENE, Ore. � Former Lumberjack Lopez Lomong qualified for the 2009 IAAF World Championships by winning the 1,500 meters at the USA Track and Field Championships Sunday. Lomong outran Nike teammate Leo Manzano down the home stretch to win the event in 3:41.68, edging Manzano�s 3:41.82. The World Championships are held in Berlin Germany, August 15-23.

Souers Contract Extension Approved by Arizona Board of Regents

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. � Northern Arizona Head Football Coach Jerome Souers has been awarded a one-year extension that will put him under contract to coach the Northern Arizona University football team through the 2010 season, extending the contract set to expire after the 2009 season. The contract was approved by the Arizona Board of Regents Thursday.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. � Junior David McNeill was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America� men�s track/cross country first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). He is the 10th Academic All-America first team selection in school history.
